My Middle Child

I think I will always worry about Wesley being the middle child. I'm fearful of all those "middle child" jokes about being forgotten. It's easy to lump him together with Xavier as "the older boys" or with Elliott as "the younger boys". He didn't get to be the baby of the family very long (only 18 short months) before being cast into the role of big brother. He gets X's hand me down everything. He gets told he's too little to do some things and too big to do other things. I try extra hard to make sure that we devote time and attention to him in hopes that he never feels that "middle child syndrome". Lately the bedtime schedule has worked out that Wes is the last one to go to sleep at night (X goes to bed earlier now that he doesn't nap). Walter and I have really enjoyed this extra hour with just Wes. And you can clearly tell that it's Wesley's favorite part of the day to have our attention all to himself. He's so happy and cuddly and playful during that time.

The other day I realized I hadn't taken any pictures of Wesley sleeping in a long time. It's hard because he sleeps in a dark room. But when I pulled back the curtain to wake him up from a late nap, he didn't move, so I went to grab my camera. He just looked so sweet and so peaceful. That is my little love!!!!

I've been growing out Wesley's hair for a little bit. I was liking the longer look on him. But the second is started warming up around here he was sweating and his hair was going crazy.

After dinner one night I decided to cut it all off. It's pretty short, but he's just as cute as ever (pizza face and all).

Wes liked his haircut so much he celebrated by riding his tricycle in his diaper (there goes the neighborhood -- whoops!)

My little middle child has taken quite an interest in cakes since I've started making them for birthdays. He loves frosting and he loves to help me make cakes. I actually enjoy his help because he gets pretty excited about it all. Well, we've been talking about making a birthday cake for daddy pretty soon. And the other day he decided he just couldn't wait any longer. Poor kiddo was having a rough day.

He ended up carrying around that can of frosting for 2 days. He took it in the car, took it to grandma's, and even slept with it. He wanted to be ready when it was time to make the cake. Sadly things came to an end when he convinced Xavier to open the can of frosting for him. At that point I had to put it up because I knew it would end up all over the place.

Oh Wesley, I hope you always know how much I love my middle child!!!
