Why does 4 seem so different than 3 ?? When X turned three it seemed to make sense. But now that he's turning 4 it just doesn't seem right. It can't be FOUR years since I became a mom. It can't be FOUR years since I left my full time job. It can't be FOUR years since I've slept well....oh wait, that one does sound right :)
At 4 years old, Xavier seems "so old" now. Maybe it's preschool? Maybe it's that he now has not one, but 2 younger siblings? Maybe it's because sometimes I feel like we have real "non baby-ish" kind of conversations? Maybe it's because he's so much more aware of the outside world now? Who knows!
Three has been an interesting, wonderful, challenging year. I'd be lying if I said it was easy, so I won't :) I've heard that 4 is better than 3 with boys. We will see.....
At 4 YEARS OLD here's what Xavier is up to:
- X weighs about 40lbs and is 42 inches tall. He wears a size 10-11 shoe and size 5 or 6 clothes. He's tall and skinny. There is no baby weight left on this kiddo.
- Xavier sleeps pretty well at night. He really started to give up the nap right around his birthday. It was like a switch flipped. He rarely naps now and we've moved his bedtime up to about 7pm to compensate. He's completely potty trained during the day and most naps, but not overnight.
- X attends preschool 2 mornings a week at a local church. He LOVES it. Preschool has been wonderful for him. Learning about the calendar is by far his favorite thing. He sings the "Days of the Week" and "Months of the Year" song almost every day. He also is obsessed with knowing what the date is every day and pointing it out on the calendar. He got to be "star student" recently and was super excited.
- X still loves to play with racecars, bikes, and the ball pit. He also loves to dance and sing - loudly! The child never sits still! He's becoming quite imaginative lately and I like to listen in when he's having pretend conversations with his toys. Lately X has been OBSESSED with the PBS show Word World. We get the dvds from the library. His favorite thing to do now is "build a word" with his tub letters. It's awesome because I came in the kitchen today and he'd spelled out the word PIES on the table. He wants to know what letter things start with all the time. But he says it backwards. He'll ask: "Mommy, what letter starts with frog."
- X is really into nicknames. I've lost track of all the things he's made us call him, but last week it was Periwinkle and this week it's Lizzie. He says really funny things too. An example: while holding a crucifix he says to me "Mommy, this looks like Jesus is on a PoGo Stick".
- Unfortunately one of X's favorite past times is trying to get Wesley in trouble. He tells Wes do do something bad and Wes listens to him. It's a daily struggle and we are hoping he grows out of it quickly. Xavier does play well with Wesley the majority of the time. And X always wants to keeps tabs on what Wes and Elliott are doing.
It is so much fun seeing Xavier reach new milestones and watch him grow. We can't wait to see what this next year brings for our first born son!
