7 Loads of Laundry Later......
As if having small children doesn't expose me to enough bodily fluids.... X got the stomach flu last night. Poor kiddo!
I had just gotten in bed when i heard on the monitor "mommy mommy, my arms are dirty." Apparently he'd thrown up in his sleep, ALL OVER THE BED. He woke up and it was all over his arms. I quickly ushered him into my bathroom (I didn't want to wake Wesley who was sound asleep in his crib in the same room). I got X cleaned up and put him in my bed with Walter. I went to strip the bed and put everything in the washer (except for his pillow -- I just cut my losses on that one and tossed it in the trash!). When I came back in my room X was already back asleep, on my pillow right next to daddy. Clearly there was no room for me, so I headed to the couch. An hour later Elliott woke up, I got him resettled, and I returned to the couch. Thirty minutes later Walter comes and gets me saying X has thrown up ALL OVER OUR BED -- ugghhh! We strip the bed, change the laundry and get X settled on the couch with a movie (because he's wide awake now). The rest of the night consisted of Walter and I taking turns with X on the couch (and me getting up with Elliott too). It was a long night and we both only logged a couple hours of broken sleep.
By 7am X had stopped vomiting, had a low fever, and was moving around a bit. Then at 9am he fell asleep on the couch amongst the morning chaos. I moved him into his bed (which now had fresh sheets) and he took a FIVE HOUR nap. Sooooo needed (and I was soooo jealous that I didn't get one!) because he woke up feeling much better.
We are desperately hoping that no one else gets this (especially ME, because we all know when "the mom" is down for the count the world falls apart).

Wesley at 2 Years Old
Wes turned 2 on January 1st.
Wes is an amazing little kid. He's a lot of fun and mischievous all at the same time. Here's what he's up to:
- Wes weighs 30 lbs and is 35 1/4 inches tall. He's still got that big baby belly and rounded chubby cheeks. He's wearing size 7 shoe and size 2T and 3T clothing.
-Wesley is an excellent sleeper. He's super easy to put to bed -- toss him in the crib with his binker and lovey and he's good to go. Wes usually sleeps about 11 hours at night and takes a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon. He definitely inherited his daddy's love of sleep. He's still in the crib because he loves it (he told me he doesn't want to sleep in a big boy bed) so we've decided to keep him there indefinitely. Wes is now sharing a room with Xavier and seems to like that.
- Our little 2 year old is an EXTREMELY picky eater. He has his favorites and they are mostly carbs and fruits, and some some meats. And he drinks a lot of milk. Wes is very resistant to trying new foods and if he refuses to eat something that's pretty the end of story. He won't eat any veggies except pumpkin, unless it's hidden in something (like squash in pancakes or carrots in smoothies). I continue to serve him veggies every day even though they go uneaten. We are trying to teach him the "age" bite rule (since he's 2 years old he has to take at least 2 bites of everything on his plate). It works great with X, but W doesn't quite get it yet.
- Wesley speaks VERY well for his age. He talks in full sentences, and is pretty understandable. He's getting better at speaking with correct grammar and tense too. He can articulate what he wants or what has happened with pretty good accuracy. It's amazing to me because I know X didn't speak like this at age 2. We give a lot of the credit to X because he and Wes interact so much. Wesley also has a pretty good memory and will recall events at random times - ha! He's beginning to identify letters and colors. He really likes the letter K and the color green!
- X has also influenced Wes' gross motor skills. Wesley watches X do things and wants to repeat. He recently learned to jump, he's been riding a tricycle for a few months, and last week he learned how to ride a scooter. The boy can climb all over the furniture and playgrounds. He's pretty fearless. Wes can hold his own at the local Bounce House place with the bigger kids :)
- Trains are Wesley's big love right now. There are train tables at church and the library that he adores. It's fun to watch how focused he gets. We have a small train track at home and he loves to point out to me what is the locomotive, coal car, and caboose. My parents had a small battery powered train set up around their Christmas tree and it captivated Wes every time. He would even dream about it I think because he would talk about that train first thing in the morning when I would come to get him out of the crib.
- In addition to trains, Wes loves playing with racecars and reading books. His favorite book right now is "If You Give A Dog a Donut". He likes to watch Mickey on TV and do pretty much anything that Xavier is doing.
- Wesley is a funny little boy and already knows how to make people laugh by being silly. He's also stubborn and when he doesn't want to comply he will just lay on the ground...anywhere...especially parking lots (not my favorite thing!) He's familiar with time out and likes to reprimand Xavier. Wesley is a very cuddly little boy too. He loves to be held and kissed and tickled.
- It still seems strange that Wes is already a big brother. Wes likes Elliott, but would rather interact with Xavier ( you know, because E still doesn't do much). I will be interested to see how that relationship changes as Elliott gets a little older.
We love you Wessa!! Can't wait for another fun year!

Elliott - 6 Months
E Baby -- you are six months old today!!!
To look at Elliott people often think he's older than he is. Because he's HUGE! Elliott weighs 19 lbs and 27 1/2 inches long, wears size 3 diapers (size 4 overnight) and wears 9-12 month clothing. He's continues to be our biggest baby at this age.
Elliott has the best smile we see it all the time. He's got a cute little laugh too! Elliott STILL wants to be held...ALL.DAY.LONG. He's a big ol' snuggly fat baby!! This is my biggest challenge though because some days it's almost impossible to accomplish anything (even feeding and dressing the other boys) because he will cry the second you put him down. And at 19 lbs he gets heavy quickly! He's absolutely fine too because he he smiles and laughs the second you pick him up. Elliott loves mama to hold him most. This is adorable and maddening at the same time. He'll be content with someone else, but if I come into his line of sight it's all over. He'll start fussing and crying until I take him. He totally knows how to work the situation. :)
Sleep is going much better than at 4 months. He's been in his own room for a few weeks now and that has been wonderful for us and him.. Elliott is now on a more predictable routine with 2-3 naps a day. He goes to bed at 7pm and sleeps about 12 hours. He gets up usually 2-3 times a night, nurses, and goes back to sleep very quickly. He's getting better at putting himself to sleep too. Also, a big relief..... E no longer hates the car and is most often content in the carseat. Can I get an amen for that one!!!
We started some solids at 5 1/2 months with Elliott because we were desperately trying to see if ANYTHING would make him sleep better. (who knows if it has, or if its the room change, or the stars aligned, or what...) It took a few days for him to get the hang of spoon feeding and swallowing, but now he LOVES it. So far he's eaten rice cereal, peas, pumpkin, applesauce, and squash. He's not too sure about the peas. He's eating solids at dinner time and occasionally at lunch. I am nursing Elliott and that's going great. E still won't take a bottle, but I keep trying. (As a side note, I totally used to think that it was a bunch of crap when people said their child wouldn't take a bottle, like they were not trying hard enough. Now I know it's real...because I've been trying to do it for 6 months!) At least now that he's eating a few solids I might be able to sneak away for a bit longer knowing he won't starve to death. He's also really interested in what we are eating.
E baby has been sitting up for about a month now. He's still a little unsteady if it's a soft surface, like a bed. He is content to sit and plays with some toys for a few minutes here and there. Elliott doesn't roll over much. He's done it a few times, but it's not a regular occurrence. He never rolls in his sleep either. He doesn't like being laid down, and so he probably just hasn't had enough practice. The doctor said it's actually pretty common to skip milestones. Elliott is grabbing for things (toys, my hair, anything I'm holding) and puts everything in his mouth.
We love Elliott so much. He has a zillion nicknames already, given to him by us and his brother. E loves X and W too. He lights up when they talk to him and love on him.
Happy 6 months baby boy!

The Christmas Recap
Yep, I'm finally getting to it.
I don't like posting about big holidays. It feels like a lot of pressure to remember it all correctly and to purge through the mass (or lack there of) of photos. But, I'm gonna do it anyway. (And since I totally skipped over posting about Thanksgiving...whoops!)
This year I really just wasn't into the holidays. I was so distracted that I let the advent season slip by with no meaningful preparation in my heart for what Christmas is really all about, Jesus. This year was a complete contradiction from last year. This year I was just so overwhelmed with my life. Christmas is also my birthday, and I really just wanted to forget it because I was (am) far from who I want to be right now. Another year on the books was just another reminder of that.
We didn't put out a lot of decorations. The kids were just attacking them and it was so frustrating. We lost a lot of ornaments due to sticky fingers, and by the end of December our tree had taken such a beating that only 1/3 of the lights still worked. I didn't bake anything. I tried to do a few Christmas crafts with the kids, but those just went south.
Hmm...what a downer start to a Christmas post. Sorry!
Not all was bad. The kids LOVED Christmas lights in the neighborhood and became obsessed with seeing Frosty the Snowman and Baby Jesus everywhere. They took a good picture with Santa and had fun opening gifts. Our families were AMAZINGLY generous toward us and our children with meals, get-togethers, and gifts.
Xavier had a "Happy Birthday Jesus" party at school just before the winter break. Walter and I both went. It was lots of fun to see him with his little preschool friends. They did a mini-concert of a few simple songs. We made a craft and had a book exchange with the class.

Our church did Christmas services a little different this year. In addition to services on Christmas Eve, there were services on Christmas Eve Eve too. We went to that on Friday night. I was volunteering and the kids ministry was limited, so we just took Elliott and my mom kept the boys. I hate that we didn't bring them to church on Christmas, but I can only do so much, and wasn't up to having them in the regular service.
On Christmas Eve we went to my parents house for dinner and gifts. The boys looked pretty cute.
We celebrated my birthday and the boys were all about eating my lemon cake!
The kids got some nice things and everyone made fun of me because I put pillows and mattress pads on their Christmas lists (don't worry, they got plenty of toys too). On our way home we drove around a little to see Christmas lights. Elliott fell asleep in the car and proceeded to sleep for the next 6 hours straight. MY FAVORITE CHRISTMAS GIFT BY FAR!!
Christmas morning the boys opened a few gifts from Grandpa Walter (Santa!) and gave me some birthday cards. We had both our families over for brunch. They brought all the food and it was soooo good! Elliott's birthday gift to me was taking a 2 1/2 hour morning nap. It's not that I don't love the kid, but it was so nice to eat a meal not holding him! After everyone left the 5 of us all took a much needed afternoon nap. (See how this post is now being dominated by sleep and nap talk -- yeah, that's how important it is to me right now!)
Christmas Day evening we headed to Grandpa Tom's family Christmas. HOLY SCHMOLY! I've never seen such a pile of presents and massive gift opening by what seemed to be about 50 people. I was sitting in a chair with Elliott sleeping in my lap trying not to have a panic attack from everything that was going on in front of me. Don't get me wrong, it was fun, but just not something I'm familiar with, coming from a fairly small family.
I did a terrible job taking pictures of Christmas this year, so sorry it's (really) sparse.
MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Xavier at 4 Years Old
X turned 4 on Dec 17th.
Why does 4 seem so different than 3 ?? When X turned three it seemed to make sense. But now that he's turning 4 it just doesn't seem right. It can't be FOUR years since I became a mom. It can't be FOUR years since I left my full time job. It can't be FOUR years since I've slept well....oh wait, that one does sound right :)
At 4 years old, Xavier seems "so old" now. Maybe it's preschool? Maybe it's that he now has not one, but 2 younger siblings? Maybe it's because sometimes I feel like we have real "non baby-ish" kind of conversations? Maybe it's because he's so much more aware of the outside world now? Who knows!
Three has been an interesting, wonderful, challenging year. I'd be lying if I said it was easy, so I won't :) I've heard that 4 is better than 3 with boys. We will see.....
At 4 YEARS OLD here's what Xavier is up to:
- X weighs about 40lbs and is 42 inches tall. He wears a size 10-11 shoe and size 5 or 6 clothes. He's tall and skinny. There is no baby weight left on this kiddo.
- Xavier sleeps pretty well at night. He really started to give up the nap right around his birthday. It was like a switch flipped. He rarely naps now and we've moved his bedtime up to about 7pm to compensate. He's completely potty trained during the day and most naps, but not overnight.
- X attends preschool 2 mornings a week at a local church. He LOVES it. Preschool has been wonderful for him. Learning about the calendar is by far his favorite thing. He sings the "Days of the Week" and "Months of the Year" song almost every day. He also is obsessed with knowing what the date is every day and pointing it out on the calendar. He got to be "star student" recently and was super excited.
- X still loves to play with racecars, bikes, and the ball pit. He also loves to dance and sing - loudly! The child never sits still! He's becoming quite imaginative lately and I like to listen in when he's having pretend conversations with his toys. Lately X has been OBSESSED with the PBS show Word World. We get the dvds from the library. His favorite thing to do now is "build a word" with his tub letters. It's awesome because I came in the kitchen today and he'd spelled out the word PIES on the table. He wants to know what letter things start with all the time. But he says it backwards. He'll ask: "Mommy, what letter starts with frog."
- X is really into nicknames. I've lost track of all the things he's made us call him, but last week it was Periwinkle and this week it's Lizzie. He says really funny things too. An example: while holding a crucifix he says to me "Mommy, this looks like Jesus is on a PoGo Stick".
- Unfortunately one of X's favorite past times is trying to get Wesley in trouble. He tells Wes do do something bad and Wes listens to him. It's a daily struggle and we are hoping he grows out of it quickly. Xavier does play well with Wesley the majority of the time. And X always wants to keeps tabs on what Wes and Elliott are doing.
It is so much fun seeing Xavier reach new milestones and watch him grow. We can't wait to see what this next year brings for our first born son!

Happy Birthday Wesley {2 Years Old}
New Years Day has had a new meaning for our family the last 2 years. It's Wesley's Birthday!!!!!
The birthday boy took after his big brother and requested a pudding cup. We were able to coax him into eating his lunch first though!
We are so excited to see our little guy turn 2. And of course that means mommy busts out her crazy cake lady skills to whip up something fun.
Wesley is really into trains so it was only appropriate that I make him a train cake. All aboard....this is a one way ticket to YUM!
Happy Birthday Wessa!
(A post about what Wes is up to these days is in the works!)
