Naps are Good

Xavier has pretty much given up his afternoon nap. He probably takes a nap once a week now. Sometimes he just falls asleep watching TV while the other boys are sleeping.

Or sometimes I mandate that he takes a nap if he's gotten up really early. (This particular day he was sooo crabby but adamant that he DIDN'T need a nap. This is how I found him 2 minutes later.)

And apparently it's comfy to fall asleep with your legs crossed.

I guess when you are 4 years old and never sit still it all catches up with you once in awhile!

A Hat-Tastic Birthday

My grandma turns 89 years old today. We celebrated yesterday with a birthday brunch. Bacon, egg casserole, pancakes, and fruit. YUM!!! My mom knows how to do it up right!

It was a special morning because we had family in from out of town. My grandma had her 2 kids, her 3 grandkids, and her 4 great grandkids all together (spouses too of course!). It was a fun morning and so good to catch up. This was also the first time my family met my cousin's daughter. She is adorable and we celebrated her birthday (a little early) too.


I made my grandma a hat cake in honor of the fact that she likes to wear hats quite often. It turned out pretty good. Wesley helped me make it. He's my little baker buddy lately. He did get a little upset about the coconut though -- he kept saying "don't put cheese on the cake". Ha!

Resemblance

For some reason Wes and Elliott really look alike to me in this picture. Maybe it's the expression or the red outfits ??

A Tasty Laptop

We celebrated my mom's birthday last weekend with dinner and cake at our house. My brother made a yummy lasagna for everyone and sang us a few tunes with his guitar.

My mom just recently bought a laptop computer. So to commemorate her leap into modern technology (bye bye big old desktop) I made her a laptop birthday cake.

Wesley waited so patiently all day to eat it. He kept telling me "close the computer". Clearly he didn't understand how that would ruin the icing keyboard :)

He Finally Took It

After almost 7 months of trying, Elliott FINALLY took a bottle (of pumped milk) this morning. While it was only 2 oz, it was the first time ever that he actually sucked on the bottle like a normal baby and didn't just bite it. He drank those 2 oz in less than 5 minutes. That has NEVER HAPPENED.

I can hardly contain my excitement!!!!!!

I think he would have actually drank more, but I stopped him because I didn't want to overdo it. I will be trying the bottle again with the rest of the milk in the morning. Let's hope it wasn't a fluke.


Xavier and Wes find it very peculiar to see Elliott with a bottle. It's funny because they don't even notice me nursing multiple times a day, but seeing a bottle is such a rare thing in this house that they were on high alert this morning asking me what I was doing.

Could it be that I might get to go out for a whole evening sometime in the near future?

Google

Xavier's most common question lately is "How do you spell....."  or he says all the letters in a word and then asks you what the word says. He is obsessed with letters and making words.

Today I opened my laptop and X looks at the screen and says " G - O - O- G- L- E. Mommy what word is that?" I tell him it's Google. Then he runs into the bathroom and two seconds later I look over and he's spelt GOOGLE on the table with his tub letters.

I am loving this letter stuff. I can't wait for him to be reading. It's so exciting to watch him learn!

Self Portraits

Xavier got his own, kids version, digital camera for Christmas. I downloaded the pics and videos the other day. Apparently he really likes taking pictures of himself. Here's a sampling of what I found. His nostrils look huge from that angle!

His videographer skills might need to be practiced a little, but he's had a lot of fun "taking movies" as he says.

For the Record

A few quick things to write down before I forget:

This week Elliott started clapping. We were sitting at small group and I look over and he's doing it. Pretty neat!

Also this week Elliott started shaking his head no. Thankfully he doesn't realize what it means yet :)

E also had his first taste of baby "puffs" this week. He likes them but probably won't get to eat many because X and W hijacked the container and went off in the corner and scarfed down. 

Another milestone, but not necessarily a great one....
Wesley is now taking off his diaper once he's been put to bed. The other day I didn't realize it until the morning and found him laying in a soaking wet mess. Last night I caught it an hour after he went to bed. Thankfully he hadn't wet the bed and I was able to put his diaper back on while he was asleep. Might be time to get out the duct tape!!
